You raised shoplifting as a concern, so here’s a quick local update. Good News for Local Residents: Prolific Shoplifter Arrested and Remanded
As part of Operation SoundJump, local Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) officers have secured a significant result following the arrest of a prolific shoplifter who had been causing ongoing concerns for local retailers and residents.
The suspect, who was well known to staff at a local supermarket and had become a familiar face due to his near-daily offending, was arrested after stealing a large quantity of goods, including alcohol, steaks, and other food items.
While conducting proactive plain-clothes patrols in the area, SNT officers heard reports of a shoplifting in progress over the police radio. Thanks to their close proximity and swift response, officers quickly located the suspect and, following a foot chase, successfully detained him and recovered the stolen property.
The offender has since been charged, remanded into custody, and taken before the courts. This positive outcome will help reduce the impact of repeat offending on local businesses and provide reassurance to the community.
By tackling prolific offenders, officers can now dedicate more time to addressing other issues that matter to residents across the ward, including anti-social behaviour, violence, theft, and other neighbourhood concerns.
Operation SoundJump remains ongoing, with officers continuing proactive patrols and enforcement activity across the area. We hope to deliver further positive results in the coming weeks as we continue working to make our neighbourhood safer for everyone.

We’ve put hundreds more officers on the frontlines of community crime-fighting teams, upping visible patrols in the right ‘hot spots’ so we can deter and catch criminals. We’re now arresting more than 1,000 extra criminals every month and seeing ‘neighbourhood crime’ down 14%. But we know there is more to do. That’s why we’re stepping up our use of technology, increasing our operations and working with retailers to make it less appealing for criminals to commit these crimes in the first place.
